Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has described the anguish he felt after suffering a serious knee injury.

Thomson damaged the cruciate ligament in his left knee during the 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock on Sunday and is set to be sidelined for the rest of the season.

He went down in agony after challenging for the ball with David Fernandez and Thomson admits he realised the extent of the problem straight away.

"It was just a feeling of total devastation," Thomson said in the Daily Record.

"The moment it happened, I knew immediately how serious it was and what the consequences would be.

"They carted me off to an ambulance room in a corner of the ground - I had never been in that room before and hopefully I'll never have to see it again.

"I just lay there knowing I was in serious trouble. I admit I probably cried more tears in half an hour inside that room at Rugby Park than I have in all my life. Gutted doesn't even come close."

Long time out

Thomson also picked up a cruciate ligament injury five years ago when he was aged 19 and is aware of how difficult it will be to recover.

He said: "When it happened the first time, I was only a kid and very naive. I had no idea how serious this kind of injury is and no idea what to expect.

"But as soon as my knee went against Killie I knew exactly what was happening to me. I knew I was staring at a long time out and that hurt almost as badly as my knee."

Thomson, who visited a specialist in London on Wednesday, has vowed to get over his latest setback.

He said: "A handful of people don't make a full recovery but I like those odds. I have no doubt in my mind I'll be back - just like I was the last time."
