Mario Gomez believes Germany are the 'superior' team ahead of Wednesday's friendly against England.

England are missing several key players through injury and Stuttgart striker Gomez is confident Germany can gain revenge for their 5-1 defeat seven years ago.

Germany have made a fine start to their World Cup qualifying campaign and Gomez is looking forward to what he expects to be a competitive encounter.

"There is a special rivalry between these two teams. There have been a lot of changes in both squads but everybody remembers the game in 2001 when we lost 5-1," said Gomez.

"But today I believe that Germany are the superior team and we will prove that on the pitch.

"It will be a fierce game and one that we want to win."

Danger

Gomez has nevertheless been impressed by England's form of late, with Fabio Capello's men winning their opening four Group 6 matches.

Gomez believes the biggest threat to Germany will be Theo Walcott, who scored a stunning hat-trick in September's 4-1 victory over Croatia.

"Everybody has seen how England have improved under Capello. But we know what we have to do to win the game," Gomez commented.

"For me the biggest danger that England offer is the speed of their attack, and recently that has meant Theo Walcott.

"It is true he is an incredible player and I have watched a lot of his games for Arsenal and England. He has such speed and can get in behind defences and is difficult to get the ball off.

"This is a massive game because playing England at any time is a big and attractive fixture. There will be nothing friendly about this game."
