Carson: Hopes for further chance

Scott Carson hopes another high-profile error will not put pay to his England ambitions.

The West Brom keeper was involved in a mix-up with national skipper John Terry during the Three Lions' 2-1 victory over Germany on Wednesday.

While Fabio Capello's men ultimately went on to win the contest, courtesy of Terry's late header, Patrick Helmes' 63rd minute equaliser has come under the spotlight.

It was the second time in as many outings that Carson has been at the centre of a costly mistake, following his disappointing showing in the infamous Euro 2008 qualifying defeat to Croatia in November 2007.

However, he insists he will not let the incident affect his morale and is hoping to play a part in England's quest to reach the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

Comfortable

"It was just one of those things. Afterwards we both just said our versions of events really and it was just one of those things, a mix-up," said Carson.

"It was not great but I wouldn't say it was a mistake similar to Croatia. If another long shot had gone in that I spilled, I probably wouldn't be talking to you now!

"But this was just one of those things. If you see games on a Saturday, they happen all the time so I'm not going to get too disheartened about it and I'm just glad to get on the field again for England."

Carson added: "It was my first cap since Croatia but I was not nervous when I came on. Once the whistle goes, you get in the zone, everything else goes and you start concentrating and, once that happens, I feel comfortable.

"It was nice to get the first cap after Croatia. It was nice to get another cap under my belt and hopefully I can just keep picking them up and keep learning.

"It was good to be part of an England win in Germany. It is not an easy place to come and Germany are a good side."

Concentrate

Carson accepts that if he is to be handed further opportunities in the future then he must continue to catch Capello's eye at club level.

"Am I looking to establish myself with England? Hopefully. With the manager here, you've got to be playing well for your club and, if you are not playing well for your club, you are not going to get in the England squad," he added.

"I've just got to concentrate on West Brom and, if I can do well for them, hopefully I can look forward to England.

"I've got to start playing well from now on and just keep my nose in the squad.

"The World Cup in 2010 is not too far away and hopefully I can get in the squad and keep impressing the manager."
