Carrick: In confident mood

Michael Carrick is confident Manchester United can beat Aston Villa on Saturday and maintain their challenge for the Premier League title.

The Reds recorded their biggest win of the season last week with a 5-0 victory over top flight new boys Stoke.

Carrick, though, admits Saturday's game will be tough against a Villa side who recently achieved what United could not, in beating Arsenal at the Emirates.

"We know what Aston Villa can bring to the table," Carrick told the Manchester Evening News.

Energy

"They have got some good players and some young players with bags of energy and enthusiasm.

"For them to go to the Emirates Stadium and win says a lot and will put them in confident mood.

"But if we play like we can we are confident we can win the game."

United's record at Villa Park is impressive, with 11 of their last 12 visits all resulting in a Reds win.

Confident

Affording to be confident, Carrick insists United can still win the title despite falling eight points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.

"There are no doubts within our camp," he said. "We know what is required and what is expected of us.

"Matches will come thick and fast now but we have the squad to cope.

"There is still a long way to go and we are confident we will be there at the end of the season."
