Barry: Rid of fear factor

Gareth Barry insists Aston Villa will not get carried away by dreams of a UEFA Champions League place, but believes the players are no longer afraid of the 'big four'.

Villa have emerged as the team most likely to break the traditional top four's stranglehold this season after making giant strides under Martin O'Neill.

After beating Arsenal 2-0 away last weekend, Villa held champions Manchester United 0-0 at home on Saturday to move into fourth position.

Barry is happy with Villa's performances against the top-flight's big guns and hopes to take advantage if Arsenal's indifferent form continues.

"It was a great result for us," said Barry of the draw with United. "To back the win up at the Emirates with a draw against the champions is two great results for us. Overall we are delighted.

Fear factor

"I think we have got rid of that fear factor now when we play the big sides.

"It is certainly a great sign to pick up a win on the road against a top-four team and then to get a draw against the champions at home.

"It is a great sign for us, something we probably haven't achieved before, so things are looking up.

"Can we make the top four? It has been two great results and Arsenal slipping up again will give you that belief, but we won't get carried away at the same time.

"There is a long way to go and the teams who have been in the top four for so long are there because they have got great players so they will be bouncing back.

"Things seem up in the air at Arsenal with what is going on and certainly results aren't going their way at the moment so, if there is a chance to break in, we've got to be ready to take it if it is there for us."
