Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has revealed defender Wilfred Bouma is making good progress in his recovery from an ankle injury.

Bouma, who penned a new deal with Villa last month, is currently sidelined after he badly dislocated his ankle in July.

A specific comeback date for the Dutchman remains uncertain but the player and his manager have delivered encouraging updates over his rehabilitation.

O'Neill said in the Daily Star: "He's coming on well. Everyone seems to be pretty pleased with him. It's a frustrating time but he's getting there."

Bouma added in the Express & Star: "I am on track. I hope to be back in training this year, but I will not be ready for games."
