Kinnear: Staying at St James' Park
Newcastle have confirmed the appointment of Joe Kinnear as manager until the end of the season.
Kinnear took over as interim manager following the shock departure of Kevin Keegan in September
The Irishman initially joined Newcastle on a one-month deal, which was then extended until the end of November as the club continue to look for new owners.
The former Nottingham Forest and Wimbledon boss has helped steady the ship at St James' Park and a number of players had called for Kinnear to be handed the job on a more permanent basis.
Kinnear had expressed his desire to extend his stay on Tyneside and the club have now acted by giving him a deal until the end of the current campaign.
The news will fuel further speculation over the club's difficulties to find new owners with Ashley actively looking to sell the the Magpies.
With his appointment rubber-stamped, Kinnear is now turning his thoughts to improving the squad when the transfer window reopens in January.
"Ever since I came to Newcastle United I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience," Kinnear told the club's official website.
"The players have been great to work with and the fans have made me feel at home since day one.
"We have a big challenge ahead of us for the rest of the season but together I'm confident we will make good progress.
"We have some very good players already at this club and hopefully we can further strengthen the squad in January and I will be working very closely with the directors to try to achieve that."
Managing director Derek Llambias added: "Joe has done an excellent job since coming to the club and everyone is delighted that he has agreed to remain in charge for the rest of the season."

get rid of WISE, he was no good at Leicester and Newcastle have gone south since his arrival. Let the Manager manage the football club

I personally cannot uderstand some Toon fans complaining about this decision, the guys done fantastic under difficult circumstances. Although we're still down there fighting, i don't think it matters too much at the moment as is all so close. I can see why Joe's starting to get alot of people on his side, his outspoken rants are the most entertainment we've had since Keegan's "I'D LOVE IT" speech!

What Newcastle need is a bit of stability, appointing joe until the end may not please the fans but its the most sensible thing ashley has done, the fans need to understand that if they can stablise the club they may find a buyer sooner, hopefully the next owner wont have a 'director of football' just a manager that is allowed to "manage" his team !

Joe has done great in very difficult circumstances. At last there seems to be some unity. Personally i don,t think K.K. was the right man for the job, (to fast to cut and run). I hope the board will let Joe do the deals he feels are right in January, and then see where we are come May.

I am really pleased for Joe. Needed some stability, and he has given us that. He has has already let that clown Wise know what players he wants, and which ones he wants out, so lets see if the board actually listen this time. He wants to keep Owen, so hopefully Joe can persuade Ashley to offer him a contract, i mean a club with the likes of Owen will be easily to sell than one without. Let him be judged i May, a mid table finish, a good run in the cup might see the end of Ashley quicker and maybe Joe will keep the Job. Whatever happens, please keep Given at the club, Arsenal and United will be all over him come January, in regards to Owen, not as fussed, sure we can sign another striker who will stay fit and score goals. Well done Joe, fans are behind you.

I'm pleased for Kinnear who to be fair has not done a bad job for the club. Having said that I for one don't have a short memory I won't give up till three certain gentlemen have left the club, we have a lot of players out of contract at the end of the season with nothing being done about it. This club could still be in a right mess come next summer, no money unless we sell in the winter window, what good player will come here in these circumstances. Keep up the good work Joe, though this club is still in a mess.

I think JK has done an excellent job. He doesnt rush injured players back, he has put belief back in the team, he has taken the pressure of the players withhis media outbursts (fairplay for telling truth) and most of all he is doing better than the "messia" keegan was ever doing or was ever going to do. Well done JK

A well deserved appointment. JFK has done extremely well so far; despite someone's earlier comment about 10 points from 24 not being good enough, given the circumstances 10 points is a good return. He's stabilised the club, has the full support of the players and is the first Newcastle manager since Sir Bobby Robson to have a clue about tactics. Congratulations Joe, keep up the good work.

He has done a great job and I think for once Mike Ashley has done the right thing. Any football club needs to have players who want to play for them and managers who want to manage them. Joe Kinnear loves the job and is doing a great job so far. I agree with his assessment on the Premier League referees its just a shame the referees don't take critiqueing kindly!

I smell a rat away here, is it just possible that Mike Ashley isnt really seriously looking to sell the club and its all been a ploy to keep the fans quiet for a while or does he just want to much for the club, if he's genuine about it surely he would sell at a lower price.

Excellent move by the board. Kinnear stepped into a club at the brink of meltdown and put us back on track very quickly... didn't take him 8 games to get a win anyway. He's got just about everything right so far and if he can address our lack of goals from midfield (re-instate Zog and find a much needed proven central attacking midfielder in January) then we can start to look upwards with a manager that is just a daft enough himself to manage our great daft club.

JFK has confounded all his critics, although 10 points out of 24 is not fantastic. IF Ashley has any sense and still wants to sell the club, he will provide funds for JFK in J. If not, his asking price will tumble quicker than my washing machine. He needs to sell Duff ( goes backwards before going forwards), Butt (gives the ball away too easily in midfield, which often leads to opposition scoring), Viduka (too injury prone), Enrique ( will never make it in PL), Ameobi (will he ever be consistent) Cacafa, Harper (we will lose an excellent keeper in Tim Krul, who is 10 years younger)

Good grief, as if things couldn't get any worse for NUFC! Not looking forward to going down this season, but guess I will have to get used to the idea, as it is looking inevitable now.

Is this a good appointment, lets see come May. People seem to have jumped onto this feel good bandwagon, remember we are still in the bottom 3. Joe is talking about transfer targets in January, which is good, but its talk any mamager can do it, lets see it first. The best signing he can make is right under his nose, Michael Owen. Get him tied down, and get rid of the deadwood. Dont wait until January Joe, the best signing you can make, you already have, if you cant sell the club to a current player then questions need to be asked. If Owen wants to go then say so, get him off the payroll and invest it somewhere else.

A bit worried that this means the selling of the club is not going as swiftly as hoped. Perhaps these stories about Americans, Nigerians and South Africans are not entirely accurate. Perhaps it would be beneficial if Mike Ashley broke his silence to reassure the fans of the club he once stood alongside what is going on. And were Newcastle forced to offer Joe the job with other clubs threatening to sign our interim manager? Whatever the case, supporting JK and NUFC all the way, as usual.

Deservedly so. I hope Joe will come with something big until the end of the season. All his work now put in question Keegan's action when he leave apparently unsatisfied with board. I think too big ego's in one place (Wise, Ashley,Keegan..) was the main reason he left

John Bell (Newcastle United fan) says...
Kinnear has done a good job so far, blatantly obvious though that the reason he has been given the job to the end of the season is because the sale of the club has stalled. hope he gets to bring a couple of his own players in. Alao hope there is no mass exodus in the January transfer window with players such as Owen, Given and Duff being allowed to leave to cut wages again. Joes job will be hard enough without this.

Congrats to Joe. To be fair he's done a decent job since he arrived. The team is now playing with a bit more belief and with a few additions (as well as selling duff and enrique) things should be fine. Bar the Mackem the Fulham games results haven't been to bad. Hopefully now with a bit of stability things will finally start to look positive. Mid table finish would be great to build for next season.
