Kenyon: Expecting little activity

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon expects 'little or no' transfer activity at Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

The Blues have spent lavishly since owner and Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich took over in 2003.

However, the club have steadily tempered their outgoings in a bid to become self sufficient in the future.

Blues manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has been linked with a number of possible targets but it has been suggested he could have to sell before entering the market in the New Year.

Kenyon, though, does not feel the club will significantly bolster their ranks due to the unavailability of certain players.

From within

He said on Sky Sports News: "Traditionally we have never done a lot in January. This January is no exception. We have not finalised whether we will do anything or not.

"It is all about what we want to do and whether those players are available. Short-term fixes are not really what would work for a club like Chelsea.

"I think we will see little or no activity because the players we probably would want to bring for the long-term are not available."

He added: "We have had six of our squad not readily available through injuries. We have still got those players to come back.

"(From) January onwards I think we will see a slightly strengthened Chelsea from within."
