Agger: Confident of improving

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger claims he has not reached top form yet this season after recovering from a string of injuries.

Agger missed the majority of last season due to a metatarsal injury but found himself rushed back to action this campaign after fellow defender Martin Skrtel damaged cruciate ligaments against Manchester City in October.

With Skrtel returning later this month, Agger knows he must find his best form in order to keep his place in the team.

The 23-year-old was signed in January 2006 from Brondby for an undisclosed fee and the Denmark international is looking to get back to the form which prompted the Reds to take a gamble on him.

"It's difficult to compare to how I was before, and I know there are some things I need to improve, but I can feel myself getting better and better with every game," Agger told Liverpool's official website.

"Maybe I am not there yet, but I will be soon. Of course sometimes it's difficult but you have to keep working hard to improve yourself and that's what I am trying to do.

Recovery

"It has been difficult with the injury last year but that's in the past. Hopefully I'll be back to 100 per cent soon," Agger continued.

Despite an ambition to get better on the field Agger can have no complaints with life off it as he explains.

He added: "Outside of the pitch I'm really happy. I am enjoying everything. The people in Liverpool are so friendly.

"I was really surprised when I came to the city how friendly the people were compared to other places I have been. I cannot complain about everything."

Agger's defensive colleague Sami Hyypia entered the club's top 20 appearance list when he notched his 454th game against West Ham on Monday and the Dane has only admiration for the 35-year-old.

He said: "I can't even say how big an achievement it is. He is such a superb player and such a good professional.

"I can't think of anyone else who deserves what he's got more than him. He is the ultimate professional.

"If he's not playing he helps others as much as he can and tries to guide people."
