Southampton have bolstered their squad by landing Lee Molyneux and securing Ryan Smith's services permanently.

19-year-old left-back Molyneux, who has been training with the club recently, has joined Southampton on a free transfer from Everton.

Molyneux is regarded a somewhat of a set-piece specialist and has excellent pedigree having played with the likes of Theo Walcott and Micah Richards at England Under-16 level.

The teenager has signed a two-and-a-half contract at St Mary's Stadium - a deal which ties him to the South Coast outfit until the summer of 2011.

Free transfer

Meanwhile, the club will retain Smith for the remainder of the season after landing him on a free transfer from League One outfit Millwall.

Former Arsenal youngster Smith made five Championship appearances while on loan from The Lions and has now signed a six-month deal.

"I'm really pleased to have made the move," Smith told the club's official website. "Southampton is a big club and are not really a Championship outfit.

"I'm very positive about my future here. I've enjoyed my time here so far, although I haven't played as much as I would have liked to due to injury. Now I'm totally fit to play again and I'm hoping to play as many games as I can."
