Birmingham have decided not to extend the loan of Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Owusu-Abeyie.

The former Arsenal man has made 13 appearances this season, scoring three goals, but after his initial six-month loan spell expired manager Alex McLeish has decided to send the Ghanaian back to Russia.

Owusu-Abeyie's last outing for the Blues was in the 0-0 draw against Swansea at St Andrews last month.

McLeish also admitted that the money freed up by the 22-year-old leaving the club could now be spent on bringing in new players during the transfer window.

"We thank Quincy for his efforts and wish him well for the future," McLeish told the club's official website.

"Having made this decision we will now continue to strengthen the squad.

"His deal was an expensive one for just one player and we will now look to use the money to bring in new faces."
