Tottenham defender Michael Dawson hopes to ease the 'heartbreak' of missing out on Carling Cup glory last season by reaching the final this year.

Spurs defeated London rivals Chelsea 2-1 in February 2008 to win the competition, but Dawson was sidelined for the Wembley victory due to a hamstring injury.

However, the 25-year-old is hopeful he can banish the agony of having to sit out the final success by reaching the showpiece event again this term.

Tottenham are preparing for Tuesday's first leg of their semi-final meeting with Burnley, which can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1, and Dawson is determined to eliminate the Championship outfit.

"There have been lots of ups and lots of downs over the last 12 months, but certainly missing the Carling Cup final was the biggest downer for me," he said.

"It still stays with me, and I think it always will do. I've been part of the team for lots of games now - so to miss one as big as that was heartbreaking, it really was.

"I hope this year we can reach a final again, in the Carling Cup or FA Cup, and I'll be part of it."
