Reading defender Graeme Murty has agreed to join Charlton on a month-long loan deal.

The 34-year-old right-back has been sidelined with calf and hamstring injuries all season and only returned to action in Saturday's FA Cup defeat to Cardiff.

Steve Coppell has now decided to send him out to The Valley to help him improve his match fitness.

"Murts has just come back to fitness after six months out and needs to get some games under his belt, so hopefully this loan move will give him that opportunity," Reading's director of football Nick Hammond told the club's official website.

Murty, who joined Reading in 1998, will stay with the Addicks until February to aid their battle against relegation.

Charlton are currently bottom of the Championship table and have not won in their last 16 games.

Charlton boss Phil Parkinson said: "I'm very pleased Graeme has agreed to join us.

"I felt we needed one or two players in the building with a winning mentality. Graeme certainly has that from his time at Reading and he has been promoted from this league before."
