Windass: Told he can leave Hull City
Hull City's Dean Windass has been told he can leave the Tigers by boss Phil Brown.
The veteran striker has been left out of the City squad for the last two games after being substituted at half-time during the 5-1 thrashing at Manchester City on Boxing Day.
His availability has triggered immediate interest with Hartlepool already understood to have made a move for the striker, who turns 40 later this year.
He has already been linked with moves to Doncaster, Leeds and Grimsby this season but will consider his options carefully before deciding whether to make a loan move away from the KC Stadium.
Windass has endured a frustrating time since scoring the winner for his hometown club in last season's Championship play-off final, making just five Premier League appearances.
He claimed a goal in the 2-2 draw at Portsmouth and also scored in the Carling Cup defeat to Swansea but has fallen down the pecking order behind the likes of Marlon King and Daniel Cousin.
The veteran had hoped to feature in last weekend's FA Cup third-round clash against Newcastle, for which Brown made seven changes, but did not even make the bench.
Windass said: "Our boss made a number of changes to the side and gave some fringe players a chance to impress, but sadly I wasn't one of them."
The striker's contract at the KC Stadium ends in the summer but he insists he will continue to work hard for the Tigers until something concrete happens.
He added: "I know Hull have already been linked with a number of strikers in the transfer window which would obviously put my future here further in doubt, but I've heard nothing from the club or my agents about anyone making an offer for me."

It would be sad to see windass go, but he can't cut it at this level, hes been awesome for us, and its a shame. maybe we should give him a player/coach role? then when he retires he can be a coach for us.

i think hull city have been very unfair to dean windass look how much he has done for the club and the city. He got them to the premiership and he should be given his chance to prove himself. good luck in the future dean.

Let him go! Deano is a legend to us Citty fans but he's not happy being left out the side and Brown is correct in not playing him...he's simply not good enough to play regularly in the premiership! He'd do well to go to a champioship or league 1 side where he can play regularly, score goals and have a good end to his carear!

He and all Hull City fans should be proud of what Dean Windass has done for the Football club, Its a compliment to him as a person and athlete to say he played in the premier league at 39 and scored the goal which helped his Hometown get there.. Here, Here for WINDASS - Legend
