Five SPL sides through to the fifth round
SPL sides Aberdeen, Celtic, Falkirk, Inverness and Hamilton have all progressed to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup while Kilmarnock were held.
SPL champions Celtic did it the hard way after battling from a goal down to claim a 2-1 win over Dundee. The visitors got their noses in front after Artur Boruc made a blunder allowing Colin McMenamin to score. However, Gordon Strachan's side were in front before half-time. Scott Brown swept home from close range before Aiden McGeady lashed home past ex-Celtic shot-stopper Rab Douglas.
Aberdeen did just enough to secure progression with a 2-1 win at Second Division side Alloa. Lee Miller put The Dons in front, but Andrew Scott's successful penalty on 42 minutes had the teams level at the interval. However, former Birmingham man Sone Aluko settled the contest with a goal just three minutes before the hour mark.
Falkirk made hard work of last season's finalists Queen of the South before eventually running out 4-2 winners. Scott Arfield's penalty put them in front, but efforts from Barry Wilson and Robert Harris saw the lower league outfit take the lead. Arfield's second restored parity before a Graham Barrett double settled the tie.
Improving Hamilton have progressed to the fifth round of the competition after squeezing past Ross County 1-0. Chris Swailes' 22nd minute goal had them ahead for much of the match, although they had to sweat out the last few moments of the game following James McArthur's late dismissal.
Struggling Inverness put their dismal SPL form to one side by brushing aside First Division side Partick 3-0 at Caledonian Stadium. Filipe Morais helped himself to a brace for the home side with Iain Vigurs also getting his name on the scoresheet.
Ayr will do battle with arch-rivals Kilmarnock again after salvaging a last-gasp 2-2 draw. Dean Keenan cancelled out Manuel Pascali's opener for the visitors, but Craig Bryson restored Kilmarnock's advantage on 54 minutes. Just when it looked like Kilmarnock had done enough to advance Alex Williams snatched an injury-time leveller.
Airdrie have progressed in the cup 2-1 at the expense of Spartans. Paul Di Giacomo opened the scoring on 26 minutes after a neat-one two with Simon Lynch, who then doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time. Gavin Malin pulled one back for Spartans after the interval, but they were unable to muster a leveller.
Dunfermline are through to the fifth round of the competition following a 2-0 success over First Division side Clyde. Goals either side of half-time from Nick Phinn and Graham Bayne were enough to see the Pars progress.
Peterhead and Queens Park have it all to do again following a 2-2 draw. Martin Bavidge put the home side in front, but a double strike before half-time from James Brough and Paul Cairney turned the game on its head. Stuart Anderson's 73rd minute effort ensured a replay in Glasgow.
East Fife are through at Stenhousemuir's expense after Robert Linn's effort astonishing late winner. Linn's corner was caught by the wind and crossed over the line at the back post with just six minutes left in the match.
Brechin's game against St Mirren, Forfar Athletic's home clash with Forres Mechanics and Motherwell's visit to Inverurie were all postponed.
