Atalanta coach Luigi Del Neri has ruled out a move to sign Celtic midfielder Massimo Donati in January.

Donati is hoping to leave Parkhead during the January transfer window following a lack of first-team opportunities this season.

The Italian has admitted he would be interested in a return to Atalanta, where he spent a spell on loan before joining Celtic from AC Milan in 2007.

However, Del Neri says Donati's previous snub to Atalanta will ensure that the player will not secure a move to the Serie A club.

"I can rule out Donati's arrival," Del Neri told the Italian media.

"In 2007 he decided to join Celtic and now he has to respect our decision.

"We are going to sign a new midfielder, but it is not Donati."
