Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has confirmed the North East outfit have no money available to strengthen during the winter transfer window.

One might suspect Southgate may be looking to bring in new faces with Boro currently just a point above third from bottom Tottenham, following their 1-1 weekend draw with Sunderland.

However, Southgate, who has spent much of January trying to keep hold of his better players, says he will go with what he has currently got between now and the end of the season.

Boro are in danger of bring relegated from England's top flight for the first time since the 1996/97 season and Southgate wants his troops to try and take a point out of every game they play.

"There is no money to strengthen the squad but we have good players here and we have to get the best out of them and pick up results," he told the Evening Gazette.

"Of course we would love to inject some money into the squad, but we are still competing on the same level and we have to put together a team which improves the situation we are in.

"Now we have to grind on. We need to take something out of every game. We are what we are and we have got what we have got until the end of the season.

"We are still in touching distance of the middle of the table and that's what we are aiming for. Everybody will stick together and we will fight to get where we want to be."
