New captain Robbie Keane admits he hates seeing Tottenham battling to avoid relegation.

The Irishman completed his shock return to Spurs on transfer deadline day just six months after leaving the club for Liverpool.

Keane's move to boyhood heroes Liverpool failed to work out and Rafa Benitez decided to cut his losses on the striker by offloading him back to White Hart Lane.

Spurs play host to North London rivals Arsenal this weekend, live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1 with Harry Redknapp's men in desperate need of the victory with the side just one point above the drop zone.

Keane, who has been handed the armband by Redknapp, concedes he would be devastated to suffer relegation and he is determined to help fire the side to safety.

"There was only one choice, one thing I would come back to and that's Tottenham," said Keane.

"I'm back now and I am here to get Tottenham Hotspur back up that league, because if I was not here as a player and looking at it from the outside and worst case scenario Tottenham did get relegated I would be absolutely devastated.

"I hate even speaking about relegation, looking at the squad we have, but the reality is we are there so we have to accept that and do something about it."
