Sky Sports News sources understand an agreement has been reached for David Beckham to remain with AC Milan until the end of the season, before returning to Los Angeles Galaxy.

Negotiations have been ongoing for some time since Beckham expressed a desire to extend his stay in Italy.

Sky Sports News chief reporter Bryan Swanson understands that Beckham will stay with the Rossoneri until the start of June and then go back to America to feature in the second half of the Major League Soccer season.

Beckham will then return to Milan next term in an arrangement that is likely to suit all parties.

He initially moved to the San Siro on loan in January but was due to return to his parent club on 9th March.

Milan have been impressed by Beckham's attitude as well as his performances and have been eager to push through a deal to keep him.

Galaxy had been reluctant to let the 33-year-old go but it now seems the clubs have reached a compromise.

The midfielder is keen to play for Milan to boost his chances of representing England at the World Cup in 2010.

Steve Jones (Liverpool fan) says...

Beckham needs to chin off LA Galaxy. He doesn't need the cash, he's too old to play for 2 clubs and he was always too good for that league. He's a good part of England's squad, playing for the next season and a half at just Milan will keep him playing at a good standard, while at a slightly less intense rate than the Premier League - which bodes well for England 2010 World Cup. Time to put your ("its not about the") money where your mouth is Becks - if its truly about the football, take the financial hit, and sort a deal that's just for Milan.

Finally I hope people will stop knocking Beckham..He is quality still and this proves it as Milan would not have trying so hard to keep him, if he was past it. Becks is a fantstic role model for all kids...his desire to play at world cup in 2010 is very admirable. He certainly is not just relying on nostalga/reputation, as his Milan performances prove. He has done as much for English football as bobby moore, and people should lay off his number of caps etc..he deserves all the praise he has been given.(millwall fan)

Mark Wildman (Manchester United fan) says...

you have to ask yourself why AC Milan want Beckham so badly. They seem to have a tendacy of buying players who are 'past there best' Lets look, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, and now Beckham. They seem more interested in the 'brand beckham' that the player. I respect beckham alot for his achievements and truely hope he does well there. I just cant see the benefit to Milan in all this on a playing side. that will mean only one thing will happen when the results dont go there way.

David Gibson (Newcastle United fan) says...

I felt this was the solution when first hearing on the loan deal, Beckham has been class above the rest at Milan and duely deserves his place in the England squad once again, still shows he has quality even though he has played in the MLS for the last few seasons. The reason why I feel Becks went to LAG is because of expanding Football to a weaker nation, fair enough he got/gets paid large sms of cash for it, but he puts it back into Football through his two academy's, many people forget that he has 2 of the most lucrative Academy's worldwide which he hopes to extend to Spain and Asia. Becks is a legend simple as that, a true Modern Footballer, using the media and fashion to his advantage.

Sandra Kilbane (Liverpool fan) says...

David Beckham chose to go to America to keep brand Beckham alive, nothing more, he owes the American's who are paying him vast wages. As an England supporter, we should be looking forward and not backwards, and building a team for the future, not sticking with a 33 year old. He has served England well, now he should step down & give the next generation a shot.

Tony Michaels (Everton fan) says...

David Beckham really encapsulates why England have been a very average team for the last 20 years. Players being picked, just on fame, image, and the fact that they play the odd hollywood pass. And a portion of the fan base demanding it. David Beckham wouldn't come close to even making the Chelsea first team. Or Man Utd, or Arsenal, or Liverpool. He does little more than play a few nice passes, and a bit of a free kick threat. The thought of him playing in the national team, as a first choice, is laughable. And will probably be the reason why we won't win anything in 2010 either. How many tournaments do you want to watch Beckham in, before you accept he isn't actually that good - he's had 4 duff ones in a row. Of course though, he plays a few nice passes, and puts over a good cross every now and then, so is a vital piece in the England jicksaw?! Have any of you actually watched his last few Milan games. Or are you reading the Beckham PR version? To update, Milan are rubbish. They have been playing rubbish since Christmas. They won't come close to winning anything. They are something like 10 points behind Inter - the same Inter that is nowhere near the class of Man Utd by they way! And, in that struggling side, who aren't even very good, he's done nothing in the last 6 weeks. He's stuggled to even last 60 minutes before he is taken off. He's there for the same reason Ronaldinho is there. And why Maldini is still a first choice defender - Milan are all about making money, selling shirts, and glamour.

Tom Codrington (Liverpool fan) says...

I'm very happy that Beckham has moved to Milan. I think he moved to LA when he felt he had no future with England as he'd been dropped and told the future was with younger players. Now it seems he's realised his mistake and has done something about it, I agree with David G, he gives a 100% and wears the 3 lions with pride unlike some players who think they deserve the right to wear it. There is no one better on the right side at the moment, bar Walcott, and he is still one of the best passers of the ball in the world. People keep knocking him down and he keeps getting back up and proving them wrong. There has been a debate about him being world class but I think he is. How many other players can say they've played at 3 of the best clubs in the world in Madrid, Milan and as much as it pains me to say it, United.

Anthony Lee (Chelsea fan) says...

I think that this is the best move for Beckham. Coming to LA was a mistake and i think he knows that now. I think the only thing LA are worried about is the money. Milan were saying that Beckham could play into his 40's. If he wants to do that then he has to stay in Milan. When Beckham started playing there he became better because he was playing at a different level. Hopefully we'll see him in the 2010 world cup.

Sam Inyang says...

I am really amazed with Beckham's form. He is one of the best players so he deserves a better club like Milan to keep him strong and fit. Cheers to you, you the best.

Philip Cullen (Sheffield Wednesday fan) says...

You definitely have to feel for those people who ran out and bought LA Galaxy jerseys when Beckham moved over! Well... maybe not. Good decision by Beckham. People will still criticise him for it, but at the end of the day - it is a good choice to prolong his top flight career. The US adventure was a failure, but at least he did the right thing and didn't stick around for the cash - preferring to come back to Europe for the football.

Brad Woolridge (Newcastle United fan) says...

Beckham is a great player. Milan are lucky to have him and Galaxy are lucky to be getting him back. I hope he doesn't get injured and if Capello picks him he'll deserve his spot. Mabe he should never have gone to the states. He is leagues ahead of those players. Will be a pleasure to see him performing alongside class and I'm sure his Milan teammates are pleased.

Justin Lewis (Manchester United fan) says...

Glad to see Beckham is staying in Milan for the rest of the season. I liked watching him play over here, but it was always with a hanky in my hand. Hope he makes it to the World Cup. I don't think the LA Galaxy have been short changed. They didn't spend the money on him. LAG aren't paying Beckham vast amounts of money. There is a salary cap in America. Adidas are paying him the money.

Andy Kelly (Manchester United fan) says...

At least the guy is doing all he can to represent his country, something that can't be levelled at some his fellow squad members mentioning nonames (JT). Playing MLS will be just like pre-season friendlies, and not to forget the Italians have a mid-season break.

Graham Weir says...

Beckham ranks higher than Paula Radcliff in the high earnings, low National Achiever league. His perpetual inclusion into the England squad, attaining caps That Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton and others worked hard for makes for a travesty only found in the beautifull game! He has forgotten his roots, even his academy was built on the wrong side of the river. He and his money grubbing scrawny wife should dissapear into obscurity in the States. West Ham supporter

Andrew Mutton (Leicester City fan) says...

Great news for all England fans. Perhaps Beckham is regarded too highly as a fashion icon and not enough as a professional player. Sure, he has had his moment (the best always do). But when he gets his chance and is on form he is still one of the best crossers of the ball in the modern game. Here's to hoping his continued playing at AC Milan helps to secure him a couple more caps for England (which few would argue he doesn't deserve). He will almost certainly be too old to feature beyond 2010 S.A World Cup, but lets hope he gets him opportunities now he is staying in Italy at least for the short term.

Ian Morris (Manchester United fan) says...

Does every player not risk injury with their own domestic seasons. Look at Manchester United with all the cups and league to focus on does this not risk the likes of Rooney, Carrick, Ferdinand etc etc. Come on 35 so what can anyone else produce a ball into the box like Beckham? I think not. Remember when he broke the bones in his foot. The country were kissing newspaper advertisements to increase the speed of his recovery. The guy is a legend. Like it has been mentioned he is one of the very few that wear the England shirt with pride and honour. It could be worse we could be talking about a come back of the Neville brothers now that would be something to worry about

Sue Cree says...

Fantastic news! but please lets all stop talking about "Brand Beckham" and celebrate a brilliant midfielder, who with a passion wants to do what he does best-play football. Anyone who can encourage the younger generation to go out there and play,(as is the case with my grandchildren) ,and put's in place the academies for them to do it. He is not afraid to show his pride for his country (a lesson we could all learn) the man should receive a Knighthood, which is long overdue. Go Beckham, we'll be rooting for you in 2010!!!

Jas Dhaliwal (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

Don't be silly, Beckham is a true professional, the amount of football he will play will do nothing but improve him and his fitness, he is an athlete and sets an example to all new and upcoming players, that if you love football, you will play as much as you can. Look at Paulo Maldini, his final season, aged 40!

John Rumbles (Newcastle United fan) says...

I have to say that I am very happy that Beckham is staying with AC Milan, mainly as a football fan, however I feel that LA GAlaxy have been short changed by Beckham, as they are paying him a vast amount of money to play for LAG, and I still dont understand why he went there in the first place other than trying to promote the Beckham Brand (dont know why he has more than enough money) if he still wanted to play for England.
