Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has set his sights on Queens Park Rangers striker Dexter Blackstock.

The Reds are desperate to add some much-needed firepower to their faltering strike-force and see Blackstock as an ideal candidate.

They missed out on a move to bring Marlon Harewood back for a second spell at the club this week, with the Aston Villa man securing a loan deal to Wolves.

However, 22-year-old Blackstock would provide a similar physical presence up front and has been identified as a top target by Davies.

"We are looking to bring in one or two before Thursday (when the loan window closes), but we are also putting one or two things in place for the summer as well," he told the Nottingham Evening Post.

"We are looking at several targets and making several inquiries and Dexter Blackstock is among those names we are asking about.

Rebuilding

"We know we have a rebuilding job to do, we know we have to plan for the future.

"We do not want to get to summer and then be scrambling for possible targets. We need to get ahead of the game now."

With Forest still struggling towards the foot of the Championship, Davies has also admitted that contingency plans have been drawn up should the club succumb to the drop.

"That is the situation, we have to prepare for both eventualities (League One or the Championship) but there is no doubt which one I am preparing for more," he said.

"I see the determination and spirit in that dressing room and it convinces me that we should be preparing for life in the Championship."
