Crystal Palace defender Claude Davis has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association following his clash with Cardiff's Roger Johnson.

The incident during last weekend's game at Selhurst Park has sparked controversy after Davis appeared to catch Johnson in the throat with his elbow.

The on-loan Derby man was not punished by referee Russell Booth for the incident which saw Johnson carried off and forced to spend two nights in hospital sparking an angry war of words between both clubs.

Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale called for the FA to investigate the incident with Palace supremo Simon Jordan responding by describing the Bluebirds chief as 'irresponsible' and 'outrageous'.

Davis has until 6pm on Thursday 16th April to respond to the claim and, if found guilty, he will serve a three-game ban ruling him for the remainder of the season.

Eagles boss Neil Warnock is unhappy that Davis has been charged over the clash.

"The referee told us after the game that he saw it and thought it was inconclusive so I don't know what has changed his mind," Warnock told the South London Press.

"There are just no comparisons between some of the challenges I've seen that haven't been punished. That's Claude done for the season now."

Disappointed

Johnson admitted he was disappointed with the actions of Davis and is in no doubt the player intended to injure him.

"It's clear for everyone to see what went on and it's clear in my eyes," Johnson told Wales Online.

"I'm disappointed with the player."
