Ronaldo: Set for departure
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of completing his £80 million switch to Real Madrid after the two clubs reached a final agreement.
The World Player of the Year is now set to move to the Spanish giants on a six-year contract, with the sale due to be completed on 1st July.
He will then be officially unveiled as a Real player on 6th July at the Bernabeu stadium in the Spanish capital.
The Primera Liga club said in a statement on their official website: "Real Madrid and Manchester United have signed the final agreement for the transfer of the rights of the player Cristiano Ronaldo, effective 1st July.
"The player will remain at Real Madrid for the next six seasons and will be presented on 6th July at the Bernabeu stadium."
United also confirmed the agreement on their website, saying: "Cristiano Ronaldo's departure is all but done and dusted after Real Madrid and Manchester United finalised the agreement for his transfer on Friday evening.
"The Portuguese winger was the subject of a world-record £80million offer from the Spanish club on Thursday 11th June.
"He has since been on holiday but a return to work with new employers now beckons, with the sale set to be completed on Wednesday 1st July.
"United have made no further comment, other than to confirm the finalisation."

this is real madrid trying to put the roof on the house before it is built, the have got a great attack but when the have not got the ball and have to defend i can see them conceding goals because these attacking players will not track back. as for manchester united i think they can do without him, he will be missed but if they get antonio Valencia and a stiker who can get 20 goals a season plus they will be challenging for all the major trophies next season again, because it is the team not just ronaldo which has won all the recent trophies.

Unfortunately we didnt sell Ronaldo at the end of last season when we could probably have got £100 million and had to put up with a petulant child who didnt want to be there. He cost us the champions league title with his completely selfish performance we were overun in midfield and Fergie once again was correct telling him and Tevez they were on the way out straight after the game, noone is bigger than the club. I hope we get a couple of players high calibre like Ribery and Benzema because when Owen Hargreaves comes back I think we could have a better squad than this year and Berbatov will come into his own this year without Ronaldo and Tevez.

Glad to see ronaldo go as he started to get really annoying like robben did after his first seasons at chelsea, Great players but spoilt by diving and foul play. It can only be good for the defenders and goalkeepers that will no longer have to be cheated out of penalties.

Ronaldo will not be the same at Madrid due to the fact that Madrid is a business, not a football team. £80m is a great amount of money for a player leaving his prime years behind and Fergie will buy decent players that may fill Ronaldos ability but not skill

As good as Ronaldo has been for Utd, myself and a lot of Utd fans I know are glad this is done and out of the way. Sir Alex hasn't got where he has today without doing what is best for the club and as much as his goals will be missed he is not bigger than Manchester United FC, no matter what he has won individually. While I'm at it, Carlos what are you doing? 5 year deal at Man U or going to City for more ££'s?!! Mental but again not overly bothered, as much as he ran about his goal record last year was a shocker, reminds me of Benitez really all hot wind and nothing to show at the end!

I think Ronaldo leaving now is a sensible move for United as with the ż80 million we can easily buy three or four decent players. Iżd like to see the arrivals of Antonio Valencia from Wigan, Karim Benzema from Lyon, Ashley Young from Aston Villa, and Fernando Torres from Liverpool, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Ronaldo will be good where ever he goes, but he doesnt work hard and in a team (like real madrid) full of superstars where are the workers? Too many big names does not make a great team, and I think there will be clashes between the bigger personality's in Real, Ronaldo deffinetly one of them.

All the Man Utd fans that have come on here and said that they think Ronaldo will not be a sucess at Real Madrid are just bitter, the lad has won everything he can in England and his dream is in Spain so why would he ever consider staying for another year? I think he will be a great sucess with Real Madrid as he was with Man Utd! Now it is just asking Ferguson what he is going to do with the £80 million, In the current transfer market with the players he has been linked with this will get him 2. I wouldn't pay anything in the region of £30 million for Ribery, don't rate him at all and don't think he could do it in England! Benzema would be a good signing but I don't think he would end up at Man Utd. I think all the speculation around Man Utd and wether they can cope without Ronaldo might affect them and put extra pressure on them, as Benitez's press confrences did with Liverpool. In the transfer market though Liverpool keep themselves quite and away from speculation, happy with the signing of Glen Johnson and can't to see him in the colours next year, Unlucky Chelsea, money can't buy you everything!

I am very Confident Ron will even be a better player in Spain, provided Real can grab a good midfielder like Alonso, or Macherano who will partner with Kaka.Ron will Rule again. For Manchester United,Ron is irreplaceable no matter who they sign.

80 millions, It's good deal for united. Now Fergi can buy good players. I think Ron will not be same in the Spain, he might fail due to over expectations.

So Ronaldo has finally gone! To the idiot who said United will crumble without him - oh no they won't. It will be interesting to see what Real win next season. Will Platinni accuse them of buying everything - I don't think so.

I'm so happy. Pre-season has only just started and Kaka, Santa Cruz and now Ronaldo has already gone. Now we can have a pre-season with true excitement without all the 'will he or won't he' shenanigans. Now I'm just awaiting what strikers Hull City will bring in to replace the rubbish we had last season.

Manchester United will not crumble without Ronaldo, when Beckham left everyone said we're doomed...but instead we got Ronaldo. When Keane left everyone said we're doomed...but instead we got Carrick. When Van Nistelrooy left everyone said we're doomed...but instead we got Rooney. Now Ronaldo is leaving...who are we going to get? Time will tell us, if we don't get anyone Manchester United will STILL NEVER DIE!!!!

Glad to see him gone as this will give the rest of us a better chance at the league. Can't wait for next season's La Liga, Ronaldo and Kaka vs. Messi and Iniesta with David Villa possibly will make for possibly the greatest El Clasico on paper in modern times! The direct rivalry between Ronaldo and Messi will also be mouthwatering but I think Kaka will be out to prove that its not just between the two of them. Interesting to see how the chemistry between Ronaldo and Kaka works out, but one thing is for sure. I think the 80 mil is fantastic business for United but unless they buy either Benzema or Ribery, it may take a couple of seasons to fill in the hole left by Ronaldo. They have enough quality to continue to be successful without him but his goals and invention was second to none in England and I think he is irreplaceable in that respect. Fergie needs to play Rooney through the center, thats his best shot at covering Ronaldo's goals next season

The question is....with all that money spent and players brought in....can Real finally beat Deportivo La Coruna at the Riazor? I dont think so...they couldn't when they had Figo, Ronaldo, Zidane , Beckham.....

well he finally gets what he wants i think it wont take him long to adapted to la liga i think it will suit his game the best united can do alot with 80 million but i wish ronaldo well in spain i mean even if he said he was going to stay let him live his dream in spain united will have to move on hopefully quick ronaldo achieved alot at united.

Good business all round. Man Utd will invest in 2 or 3 of the best up and coming players in the world and Real Madrid will be getting the best player in the world who will find it very difficult to repeat the sucess he had at Man Utd but i do hope for Ronaldo's sake that everything works out ok for him.

Fair play to the lad, he has been awesome for united but at the same time you could compare him to a little girl! His constant winging and the speculation about his future has annoyed me for far to long. I will miss his talent and goals, but play Rooney up front where he will score more goals and place a larger impression on the game combined with bringing in a talented natural winger could prove to be a better formula. I don't think united need to look for a striker, a quality winger would be sufficent!
