Dalglish: Excited
When you leave a club you don't often have a chance to return, so I am fortunate for being given such a fantastic opportunity.
Dalglish on Reds return
Quotes of the week
Kenny Dalglish has revealed his excitement at re-joining Liverpool after his appointment was confirmed on Friday.
The Reds legend, who helped the club win eight league titles and three European Cups as a player and manager, has accepted a senior role in the club's academy along with being the Merseysiders' global ambassador.
Dalglish, who remains a firm fans' favourite, has revealed his gratitude towards manager Rafa Benitez for bringing him back after he quit as manager in February 1991.
"I spoke to Rafa a few months ago, and things have progressed from there," Dalglish told the club's official website.
"Now that it has come to fruition I am very excited, but also a bit nervous.
"For the boss to put his trust in me is a great compliment, and I am coming back as a very lucky person.
"When you leave a club you don't often have a chance to return, so I am fortunate for being given such a fantastic opportunity."
One of Dalglish's primary tasks is to revamp the club's academy, which has been criticised for failing to produce too much of late from a production line that has in the past reared the likes of Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard.
"Rafa has made a very brave decision to revamp the academy," he continued.
"Everyone knows the most important team at the club is the first team, and we hope we can start producing players to challenge for a place in Rafa's plans."
