Jeremy Peace has shrugged off suggestions that new boss Roberto Di Matteo is too inexperienced to lead West Brom.

The Italian was named as Tony Mowbray's successor at The Hawthorns earlier this week, despite having just one season of management under his belt.

The 39-year-old earned rave reviews for his work with Milton Keynes Dons last term and Baggies chairman Peace is convinced he is the right man for the job.

Peace believes Di Matteo will also be able to take inspiration from the managers he played under during his successful career as a midfielder.

"People might question whether he has enough experience but as a player he played under top coaches with Italy, Lazio and Chelsea," Peace told the club's official website.

"I'm sure that will stand him in very good stead.

"I think if you're good enough you're old enough in my book."
