Plymouth Argyle have signed former Barnsley goalkeeper Kyle Letheren on a short-term contract.

Letheren was released by Barnsley earlier in the summer and had a loan spell at fellow Championship side Doncaster Rovers last season.

He has now earned a move to Home Park, with Pilgrims boss Paul Sturrock keen to bring in cover for No.1 Romain Larrieu.

Sturrock has allowed Graham Stack to join Hibernian, while Lloyd Saxton requires a wrist operation, prompting the need for back-up.

"We have brought in Kyle on a short-term deal to help us through the first couple of games," Sturrock told the club's official website.

"He has come here to prove himself and it gives him an opportunity to impress us.

"Saxton needs a small op on his wrist, which will take him out for a period."
