Modric: Injury setback
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric faces a spell on the sidelines after fracturing his fibula in the win over Birmingham City.
Modric was hurt following a tangle with Lee Bowyer during the early stages of the second half of Saturday's 2-1 success at White Hart Lane and was replaced by Peter Crouch.
Speaking after the game, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp was hoping that the Croatia international had only suffered damage to his calf.
However, X-rays have now shown the Croatian ace has fractured his right fibula and it could lead to Modric being out of action for some time.
A Tottenham statement read: "X-rays have determined that Luka Modric sustained a fracture to his right fibula during Saturday's victory over Birmingham City at White Hart Lane."
The injury will be a major blow for Spurs, with Modric having been an influential figure in the club's 100 per cent start to the Premier League season.
It could also prompt Redknapp to plunge into the transfer market before Tuesday's deadline as the injuries start to mount up in North London.
Ledley King also picked up an injury against Birmingham and Redknapp conceded his squad is a bit short with Michael Dawson and Jonathan Woodgate also injured.

I was at the game between spurs and the blues, without a doubt first half every substantial attacking mover for spurs came through modric... They will surely miss him but hopefully Harry can pull off soem managerial magic and keep his side in the top 4.

Huge shame about Luka, he's been a massive part of this great start. i think Harry needs to look at what he's got though rather than jump in and buy. Dos Santos and Bentley are great players and would give 110% to prove themselves. leave Keane where he is with Defoe and let Dos Santo and Bentley make this great squad we have become even better. Crouch is good but keane & Defoe are a so much better pairing. If we need anything its a replacement for King, yes he's fantastic when in shape but thats not often enough for a consistent back four. Look at United for the last 10 years, that teams success has been based on a regular solid back four.

I think 1-2 months is the verdict. It could be worse for Spurs I think - if Palacios had got injured, I don't know who would replace him. With Modric, I think Keane can slot straight into his spot and Crouch can now start with Defoe, with Pavlyuchenko on the bench as cover. If not, Giovanni is ready to step up I'm sure, or Lennon could play left and Bentley right. Spurs have enough cover for this type of injury now, I'm more worried about King if anything...

As a fan of football, I think it is a real shame that Modric faces a lengthy spell out. I was enjoying seeing Spurs making a fantastic start, being up there with the big four and looking like they could post a challenge. No doubt Harry will work some magic to make something happen. Hope Modric returns soon though as he was looking a real playmaker this season.
