Falkirk have rejected two bids from Hibernian for midfielder Scott Arfield.

The Bairns revealed both offers "fell considerably below the club's valuation" and were immediately turned down.

Hibernian boss John Hughes is keen to make Arfield, 20, his third capture from the club he left for Easter Road this summer.

It remains to be seen if the Edinburgh outfit will return with an improved bid before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, but Falkirk said on their official website they expect Arfield to stay put.

Hughes' successor as Bairns boss, Eddie May, has already rejected offers from Hamilton and Championship clubs for Arfield, who is currently on international duty with Scotland Under 21s.

Hughes was responsible for bringing the player through the ranks at Falkirk and promoting him to the first team.

New deal

Hamilton tabled a £100,000 offer for the midfielder, who has four years on his contract to run.

May said he was disappointed Accies had discussed the details of the offer in public.

Meanwhile, Falkirk also announced that striker Carl Finnigan had extended his contract until the summer of 2011.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Bairns from Newcastle in January 2007, exercised an option on his current deal.

Manager May said: "I have been pleased with Carl to date.

"He is looking sharp, scored a fine goal against Rangers, was unlucky not to score with the header against Hibernian and provided an assist for (Kjartan) Finnbogason's debut goal on Saturday.

"I am delighted he has taken up his option and I am sure that he will continue to score goals for this club."
