Portsmouth have completed the signing of Tal Ben-Haim from Manchester City on a four-year deal.

Sky Sports News revealed the Israel international, who is still to obtain a work permit, was set to move after falling down the pecking order at Eastlands and a deal has been confirmed.

Ex-Bolton and Chelsea defender Ben-Haim now wants to help Pompey climb the Premier League after a poor start which has seen Paul Hart's men fail to record a point.

He told his new club's official website: "I'm very happy to be here at Pompey. It is a big challenge because after four games we have no points but I'm ready for the challenge.

"I want to help Pompey get some good results and take them to the position they belong."

Beneficial

Ben-Haim follows Hassan Yebda in joining Pompey on transfer deadline day after the Benfica midfielder agreed a season-long loan move to Fratton Park.

Aston Villa's Nicky Shorey is also close to a switch, while Boudewijn Zenden is another potential arrival, and Ben-Haim believes transfers will be beneficial.

"We've brought a few players in now and I believe that we can turn things around and win some games," he added.

"I've come here to give 100 per cent in each game and no less. I'm sure that's the same for all the lads.

"I'm sure that every player who goes on the pitch will play with his heart which is the most important thing for the fans."
