Norwich have extended the loan of Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster until January after he impressed on his debut.

Canaries manager Paul Lambert moved quickly to cover the loss of Ben Alnwick, on loan from Tottenham, after he received a bad blow to the face in the 4-1 Carling Cup defeat to Sunderland last week.

Forster only signed for the League One club on Friday but performed admirably enough in the 2-0 win at Hartlepool on Saturday for Lambert to extend his stay at Carrow Road.

The 21-year-old spent the first four games of the season on loan at fellow third tier side Bristol Rovers, keeping two clean sheets in the process.

"He did well coming in on Saturday at very short notice and showed he is a very capable goalkeeper," Lambert told the club's official website.

"We needed cover due to Ben Alnwick's injury and we have now extended the loan until January, giving us more options between the sticks."

Meanwhile Norwich defender Dejan Stefanovic has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

The 34-year-old signed from Fulham last summer penning a two-year deal but after just 12 appearances for the Canaries the former Portsmouth man ruptured cruciate knee ligaments against Preston in November.

Stefanovic, who is now close to full fitness, had stated earlier last month that he wanted to leave the club and Lambert duly granted the centre-half his wish.

"Dejan made it clear he wanted to leave the club before I joined," he added.

"We thank him for his efforts and wish him well for his future."
