Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric has vowed to 'come back stronger' after being forced to miss key games for club and country.

Modric will be sidelined for at least six weeks after fracturing his fibula in Spurs' 2-1 win over Birmingham City last weekend.

He will miss Croatia's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and England before sitting out Spurs' Premier League fixtures against Manchester United and Chelsea.

The 23-year-old has now come to terms with his injury and is determined to be positive as he starts on the road to recovery.

Part of life

"It's been a fantastic start to the season and because of that, I'm disappointed," Modric told the club's official website.

"It's also happened at a time where I've important games for the club and for my national team.

"But it's part of life in our sport and I have to lift my head up and try to be positive, to come back as soon as possible and to come back stronger.

"There is never a good time to have an injury - it's always bad, especially for me at this time. But as I said, what can I do? It has happened, it is part of life and that's it.

"I can't do anything about it now and I'm thinking positively about trying to get back as soon as I can."
