American businessman Stan Kroenke has increased his stake in Arsenal, raising the prospect of a takeover bid.

The billionaire has bought 80 more shares in the company to take his stake in Arsenal to 28.7 per cent.

The latest developments see Kroenke edge closer to the 29.9 per cent mark that would trigger a formal takeover offer for the remainder of the club.

After more than doubling his stake over the last year, the owner of the Denver Nuggets basketball team bought his latest 80 shares at £8,500 each.

great news, although the club say there is money there doesn't seem this way, if he did take over hopefully he'd clear some of the stadium debt with the massive interest payments,

while I am a staunch critic of the clubs transfer policies and lack of investment in the team this summer and over the last few years..I certainly hope that neither Kronke nor Asimov succeeds in their attempts to buy the club. One only has to look at the interference of Abromovich at Chelsea, the uncertainty at liverpool, and the huge debt hanging over the heads of United to see that while it may bring short term success, in the long term the future of the club could be put in jeopardy. Wenger has done an outstanding job at Arsenal on a very limited budget and the squad really only needs topping up rather than an overhaul. This could be done by merely using the profit made on recent sales rather than selling out to the next sugar daddy. Arsenal belongs to the fans...lets keep it that way!!
