Manchester United have bid to get Fabio da Silva's booking against Barnsley overturned after citing a case of mistaken identity to the Football Association.

The Brazilian full-back was booked by referee Chris Foy in the Carling Cup clash at Oakwell.

However, it was in fact his twin brother Rafael that should have been booked for a challenge on Tykes winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce.

The FA has confirmed they have been approached by United and the submission will be heard on Tuesday by a regulatory commission.

United secured a place in the quarter-finals of the competition thanks to a 2-0 victory.

However the result was tempered somewhat by United finishing the game with 10 men after Foy sent off Gary Neville for clattering into Adam Hammill.
