Gordon Strachan has moved quickly to complete his first signing as Middlesbrough manager after securing the loan of Marcus Bent.

The striker will stay at Middlesbrough for two months and arrives from Birmingham to ease Strachan's striking problem.

Injuries to Jeremie Aliadiere and Caleb Folan have made finding another striker a priority for the Boro boss and he is delighted to have landed the 31-year-old.

The frontman has scored 107 goals in 498 career games with 11 different clubs and goes straight into the squad for the clash with Plymouth on Saturday.

"We have a young squad so his experience will be important and he has already made a good impression in training this morning," Strachan told the club's official website.

While Bent added: "This is a good step for me. Middlesbrough are a big, established club and everything about the club is geared to going back up.

"The gaffer was a big influence on my decision too. He is very experienced and motivated, so I'm looking forward to playing for him."
