Gary Neville believes the crowd trouble at Barnsley was blown out of all proportion because it was Manchester United involved.

The defender was sent-off in the Carling Cup clash at Oakwell as the Red Devils won 2-0 but the result was overshadowed by events in the stands.

United fans were said to have ran amok in the away end at half-time causing catering staff to lock themselves away in a store room, as supporters looted cash registers and stole food and drink.

Missiles were also thrown from the stand at stewards resulting in the Football Association confirming that they will look into the disturbances. However Neville is not taking the troubles too seriously.

"The supposed crowd trouble at Barnsley was something out of nothing," he told The Sun.

"United fans got boisterous. They do. But anything that happens with us gets blown out of proportion."
