Hull City midfielder Seyi Olofinjana believes that both the manager and players must improve if the Tigers are to beat the drop this season.

Phil Brown's side have taken only eight points from their first 11 Premier League games and currently languish second from bottom in the table.

Speculation over Brown's future has been rampant in recent weeks, with the departure of former chairman Paul Duffen adding fuel to the flames.

Olofinjana was brought in by the Hull boss in the summer and now insists that both manager and team need to up their game ahead of a crunch clash with the Nigerian's former club Stoke.

"Since the beginning of the season it has been very, very tough. We've not met the standards we envisaged," the midfielder told the Daily Star.

No regrets

"Sometimes you're down there but we know that it can only get better. I have no regrets about coming here, not one per cent. I'm very happy and have enjoyed every bit of it.

"We come to training every day with smiles on our faces because we believe that at some point it's going to happen for us.

"The chairman (Adam Pearson) has come in and I'm very sure that he's made changes to the club, positive changes that can only help us.

"The manager has got his own faults and he's got his own improvements to make. But the same goes for players.

"We're paid heavily to do a job and when we don't get results it's not always down to the manager.''
