Burnley manager Owen Coyle was pleased with his side's 3-3 draw despite earlier throwing away a two-goal lead.

The Clarets led big-spending Manchester City 2-0 at Eastlands thanks to goals from Graham Alexander and Steven Fletcher.

Shaun Wright-Phillips pulled one back before half-time with goals after the interval from Kolo Toure and Craig Bellamy giving City the lead.

Many felt City would get a fourth but against all the odds the game's sixth goal came Burnley's way with Kevin McDonald equalising.

Coyle changed formation in a bid to secure a point and the Scot was not too downbeat after seeing his side throw away their early lead.

Comfortable

"I have to say I felt very comfortable at 2-0. I'd have loved to get in at half-time with that," explained Coyle.

"Wright-Phillips has come up with a great strike that's come off Stevie Jordan with a slight deflection.

"There was belief at half time that we could still win the game. Then there was a spell that City will have been delighted with the goals they got.

"They then went in front. I said to the boys 'we're on a learning curve and if we'd an experienced Premier League team we'd have seen that out'.

"What I do know is that having gone 3-2 down in the game and with City firing on all cylinders we still showed tremendous resolve and belief.

"I think if you'd offered me a point beforehand I'd have taken it.

"We went the last 25 minutes 4-4-2, really gung ho and my reason for that was I was prepared to lose the match 4-2 in trying to draw 3-3."

Star striker

Coyle was full of praise for Scottish striker Fletcher who often led the line on his own and contributed with a goal and an assist.

"I thought Fletcher was outstanding all day," he continued.

"The way we were set up he was asked to work Lescott and Toure who are two top-class players and he did that.

"He scored the second goal and led the line so well. He's a young player and he'll get better.

"He doesn't have to score to contribute to the game, but he's got that in his locker."
