Sunderland have revealed that Craig Gordon suffered a fractured arm in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

The goalkeeper nipped in ahead of Spurs striker Jermain Defoe to collect a through ball in his area midway through the second-half when the injury occurred.

Defoe appeared to leave his boot in when the Scotland international had the ball in his hands, kicking the shot-stopper's arm.

The 26-year-old was forced off and replaced by Marton Fulop as the Black Cats saw their luck desert them in North London after a plucky performance which warranted more than the 2-0 loss they received.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce admitted "Craig's in a lot of pain", although club officials are yet to confirm how long Gordon will be out for.

The former Hearts man has already withdrawn from the Scotland squad to face Wales next Saturday.
