Darren Ferguson, through the League Managers' Association, has denied that he already has a job lined up after leaving Peterborough United.

The Championship basement side parted company with Ferguson on Monday, but only confirmed the news on Tuesday.

Ferguson's departure came after talks with director of football Barry Fry - who has since stated that he felt that there was a job waiting for the former Posh boss.

However, Ferguson has moved to dismiss claims that he was already set for a new club - with many reports claiming Hull City were the team in question.

"Barry Fry has today intimated that I already have a new position in place," said Ferguson in his LMA statement.

"I can categorically confirm that is 100 per cent untrue.

"However, these comments have not impacted upon my feelings towards my time at Peterborough United, the players, the Chairman and the supporters of the club."

Thankful

Ferguson stated he was very thankful to everyone at London Road.

"Following the recent departure of myself and Kevin Russell from Peterborough United we would like to express our thanks to the following people, firstly, the players past and present," he continued.

"They have been magnificent throughout, showing both commitment and loyalty, their efforts have been immeasurable.

"Our staff at the club who have supported us in so many ways from behind the scenes and have never gone unnoticed.

"I would also personally like to thank the chairman, Darragh MacAnthony for giving me a fantastic opportunity to start my management career.

"The fans, without whom, none of this would have been possible. Home and away the amazing support for the club from supporters has driven us to back to back promotions. The scenes at Hereford and Colchester where we celebrated both promotions will remain with us for the rest of our lives.

"Three years ago we arrived at Peterborough United, a League Two club; we left yesterday having taken them to the Championship and we wish the club all the best for the future."
