Graeme Souness insists he is not interested in becoming Scotland manager should George Burley depart.

The pressure is firmly on Burley after they followed up their failure to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals by being thrashed by Wales on Saturday.

The travelling fans vented their frustration at Scotland's inept weekend display and it is now believed the SFA could review Burley's position after initially handing him a vote of confidence.

Names are already being floated about who could fill the void should Burley leave, however, former Newcastle, Blackburn and Liverpool boss Souness is out of the running.

The 56-year-old is not interested in the post, claiming that his life is currently moving in a different direction to becoming national manager of his country.

No interest

"It's not up for grabs as we speak," he told Sky Sports News.

"If it was up for grabs next week, next month or year from now I wouldn't be applying for it.

"I don't want the job. I wouldn't want the job. It's not for me at this time, my life is going in a different direction."

Souness believes Burley is currently being hamstrung by the lack of quality that Scotland is producing and that Arsene Wenger or Sir Alex Ferguson would have trouble achieving results.

"You could have Arsene Wenger or Alex Ferguson managing that group of players, but the outcome wouldn't be much different." he continued.

"It is [a difficult job] in the current climate simply because they don't have the quality.

"As a Scottish manager you can't go out and buy players. You're working with a group of players that the country has produced at that particular time."
