Birmingham manager Alex McLeish says the club is making progress as they look to sign new players.

Following the recent takeover by businessman Carson Yeung, the Blues are expected to spend money on players in the January transfer window as they look to establish themselves in the Premier League.

McLeish has in the past conceded that the new owners are finding it difficult to secure transfers, but has now revealed headway has been made over a couple of players.

"The owners are looking through lists just now but sometimes it's not that easy," he told the club's official website.

"But we are certainly trying to make some headway with one or two players. We have spoken to agents and clubs.

"The next thing will be enticing them to come to Birmingham.

"Also, we've still been going to games. Everybody (McLeish and his backroom staff) was away this week and last weekend looking at the internationals."

The St Andrews outfit have had a steady start to the campaign but the club has made no secret that there will be big changes to the squad as soon as possible.

One player the Blues have been linked with is West Brom attacker Graham Dorrans, although McLeish did not want to be drawn on his targets.

When asked about press reports linking City with a move for the Scotland international, the manager said: "I don't want to say 'no', because I will have to say 'yes' when it is somebody.

"I won't be making any comment on players just now that we are linked with, rather than giving the fans names that don't appear."

Birmingham take on Fulham on Saturday in the Premier League as they look to pull away from the relegation zone.
