Shaun Wright-Phillips insists Manchester City have what it takes to finish ahead of Saturday's opponents Liverpool.

Big-spending City have emerged as a force to be reckoned with this term and travel to Anfield to take on the struggling Reds, a game which can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1.

After a bright start which included a controversial win over Arsenal, Mark Hughes' new-look side have stumbled of late drawing each of their last five Premier League outings.

However, the Eastlands outfit remain one place ahead of Rafa Benitez's side and Wright-Phillips believes Saturday's early kick-off is a chance to show their superiority over Liverpool.

"We can definitely finish in the top four," he told The Sun. "We've been together less than a year but I think things are happening with this team.

"I've played Champions League football with Chelsea - but it would mean an awful lot to do it with City, where things really started for me in my career.

"And if we can win at Liverpool, it will put down a massive marker to show people what we're capable of."

Top four

Liverpool have lost five of their first twelve Premier League outings this season, with their title credentials already written off.

With Tottenham and Aston Villa also piling on the pressure, Benitez now faces a struggle to steer his side to a top four finish, despite ending last term as runners-up.

Wright-Phillips, however, has no sympathy and has urged his side to continue to take advantage.

He added: "I don't know what has happened there but I just hope they keep dropping points and we keep picking them up.

"Obviously they are one of our challengers for a top-four place."
