Former Holland and Tottenham midfielder Edgar Davids says he is looking to train with an English club.

The 36-year-old was linked with a move to Championship side Leicester City earlier in the season but a move to the Foxes broke down because of contractual obligations with Red Bull.

But the Dutchman now wants to help an English side with his experience and expertise on the training field, and he may find himself in high demand, with Portsmouth amongst the clubs reportedly interested in him.

"I don't really want to play but it depends on what team," he said.

"Training with a team brings a lot of media pressure for that team but I'm waiting for something like that. I just hope to train and contribute with my experience to the team. It is a different mentality.

"I just want to train with a team and give my expertise. In future, I'd rather be a board member of a club than a manager."

Davids has plied his trade in Europe with top sides such as Ajax, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and Barcelona - and has also won 74 caps for the Netherlands.

His protracted move to Leicester would have been a surprising one, although he admits he was close to signing on at the Walkers Stadium.

"I knew they were interested," he added. "I liked the team, the place and the concept they had but it just didn't happen because of my obligations with my foundation and with Red Bull.

"Now I just want to train with a team and stay fit."
