Manchester City boss Mark Hughes was left disappointed after seeing his side held to another draw following a 2-2 stalemate at Liverpool.

Yossi Benayoun's goal denied City all three points after Emmanuel Adebayor and Stephen Ireland put City in front to cancel out Martin Skrtel's opener for Liverpool.

Hughes was unhappy that his side switched off to allow Benayoun to score just a minute after Ireland fired them in front.

"We're disappointed because I think we were the better team today," Hughes told Sky Sports 1. "We showed great character to come from a goal down.

"We were in a winning position and that's the frustration for us at the moment, allowing those winning situations to go away from us.

"If we had defended that moment correctly we could have seen the game out because Liverpool weren't causing us too many problems."

Adebayor's equaliser came from a corner as Liverpool again conceded from a set-piece and Hughes revealed they had been working on taking advantage of Liverpool's much maligned zonal marking system.

"A running jump will always beat a standing jump," added Hughes.

"If you've got a guy in the box like Adebayor you've got a chance if you can find him. I thought it was a magnificent header."
