Gerrard: Eager to turn season around
Steven Gerrard is confident Liverpool can 'put things right' and insists morale within the squad remains positive despite the team's flagging season.
Liverpool are facing a potentially defining week in their campaign with a must-win UEFA Champions League tie away to Debrecen preceding a derby clash with Everton.
Failure to beat Debrecen in Hungary would send the Reds out of the Champions League, with Rafa Benitez's side also relying on Lyon to help them out against Fiorentina.
And a further defeat at the hands of Everton at the weekend could leave Liverpool 16 points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea and staring at a battle to finish in the top four.
But, despite a run of just one win in 10 games, Reds skipper Gerrard is optimistic that the players are capable of turning the season around.
He said: "The mood in the camp is really good, although we know our position in the table isn't good enough.
"But we have faith in our ability. We know we can put things right."
The midfielder is also back in the team after a groin injury and is eager to play his part in reviving the club's campaign.
Gerrard added: "It's been a frustrating few weeks because as soon as I was fit we had the international break. I've been desperate to play and can't wait to really get going properly again."
Meanwhile, Martin Skrtel is determined to help Liverpool reach the last 16 of the Champions League after scoring his first goal for the club in Saturday's 2-2 draw at home to Manchester City.
Skrtel said: "We now have a big game coming up on Tuesday, and we have to forget about the City result and start thinking about Debrecen because it is a game we have to win.
"I am looking forward to it and I will give my all to try and help us get a good result. We believe we can get to the last 16."
He added: "I was very happy to score my first goal for Liverpool at the weekend. I have been waiting a long time for it, so it was a good moment for me.
"I am in my third season here and hadn't managed to score until Saturday, but I hope this is the first of many.
"But we were frustrated to have drawn again and we are not happy because of that. But there is nothing we can do about the result now and we have to look forward to the next game and try to win."
