Championship strugglers Ipswich Town have dismissed reports that Roy Keane is on the brink of being sacked as manager.

Speculation had claimed that Keane had met with Town chairman Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg over the weekend to discuss his future.

There were suggestions the meeting would result in the Irishman's dismissal, but Ipswich insist Keane remains in charge at Portman Road.

A club spokesman said: "Reports in the press this morning that Roy will be sacked are complete rubbish.

"There were no meetings over the weekend and Roy remains in charge."

Killer instinct

Keane has overseen just one win in 17 Championship matches this season as Ipswich sit second bottom in the table, four points adrift of safety.

A lack of goals has hindered Town's efforts this season and Keane outlined his determination to bring in a proven striker after Saturday's 0-0 draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

He said: "We are looking a bit more solid at the back, but we're obviously not scoring enough.

"You just need someone to have that killer instinct and put the ball in the back of the net. We're lacking that at the moment.

"If you're going to achieve anything as a team, you need one or two of your strikers to put the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis."

Ipswich travel to fifth-placed Cardiff City for their next Championship encounter, with both teams having lost six times this season.
