Wigan Athletic's players are to refund fans' tickets for Sunday's humiliating 9-1 reverse at Tottenham.
A White Hart Lane horror show saw Roberto Martinez's side endure the proverbial run-around in the capital.
Having had time to assess their performance in North London, Wigan's players have come to the decision to refund their travelling supporters.
Captain Mario Melchiot accepts the level of their performance was unacceptable and hopes this gesture at least partially atones for such a heavy defeat.
"We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday, and this is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty," read a statement on the club's official website.
"There is not a lot else to say, just that as a group of professionals we were embarrassed by the way we performed, we feel it was below our standards and this is something we feel we owe to the fans.
"Now we have to draw a line under the game, focus completely on training this week and bounce back on Saturday.
"We are professionals, we will take it on the chin and move on but it's important that we do not take our supporters for granted."

Please could you ask the Bolton players if they'd like to do the same....we only lost 2-0 but the performance was a complete shambles and if it wasn't for the fact that the opposition were almost as dire we'd have probably lost by a similar score if we'd been playing someone decent. Gartside & Megson out before it's too late!!!

I think that is a tremendous gesture from the squad and it just goes to show that not all premier league players are obssessed with money. I am a Spurs fan through and through, but i have had a soft spot for wigan for a few years now and im sure they will bounce back on saturday, and will pick up and fiinish strong this season. Well done lads, thats a great show of maturity, and i for one applaud that.

Fair play to them. At the end of the day, scores like this are going to come around once in a while, it was just unlucky that it was Wigan, who didn't show up, where as Spurs obviously did. This gesture, however, shows that gratitude they have to their fans, who will now hopefully get right behind their team again this weekend. Well done Wigan.

Well done to the Wigan players! This is a great show of professionalism. Fergie was only recently saying that modern players don't hold their hand up and admit they are to blame -so well done for showing some do take responsibility. There are a few players across the whole league who should individually give their pay back on the odd week but I guess that will be too idealistic to expect that! Are they saying sorry to their manager too - paid less than most players its the managers who get the sack for poor performances so I hope they say sorry to him for putting his job at risk! As a Spurs fan I have to admit it was great to watch and although Wigan didn't play well it was also us playing brilliantly that contributed to the score line too.
