Barry Ferguson believes his career has been revitalised since leaving Rangers in the summer for Birmingham City.

The combative midfielder, who earlier in his playing days had a less successful spell in England at Blackburn, has impressed to date in the heart of Birmingham's midfield.

Ferguson's move to St Andrews reunited the 31-year-old with his former manager Alex McLeish and he feels it could not have gone better.

Ferguson told the club's official website: "I'm loving my football here.

"It's the first time in a long time that I'm enjoying my football. I couldn't have settled any better."

Spirits are high at Birmingham following the club's recent takeover and a four-game unbeaten run.

The team are now 13th in the Premier League and aiming higher. Ferguson admits, however, that the first priority remains avoiding relegation.

He added: "I think everybody at the end of the season would take fourth bottom, but we're progressing well under the management of the gaffer so hopefully come January we can add to the squad we've got.

"You can see what we're trying to do on the park and the way we're trying to play and I think if you ask any of the fans they would be happy with the progression. Hopefully we can take it on."
