Derby have rejected talk linking Wolves with a move for striker Rob Hulse.

Reports earlier this week suggested Wolves were lining up a move for Hulse when the transfer window reopens next month.

Hulse almost left Derby in August after Middlesbrough made a move, but the switch failed to materialise as the transfer deadline passed.

Derby insist they have had no bids for Hulse, but expect plenty of speculation regarding the future of their top scorer in January.

"We have had no formal approach for Rob Hulse from any club at this stage but expect plenty of these stories in the build-up to January and therefore we will not be reacting to them all," said a Derby spokesman.

Meanwhile, Derby are hoping to see James Vaughan return to the club in the New Year.

Vaughan's loan spell from Everton was cut short after he suffered a knee injury, but he is now back in training.

Rams boss Nigel Clough is keen to bring Vaughan back to Pride Park once he is back to full fitness.

"If James gets a game or two at Everton between now and January, we will get up and see him play," Clough told the Derby Telegraph.

"And we hope to get him down at some point for a training session with us, so he doesn't come in cold in January.

"We hope by then he is fully fit and raring to go."
