Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee has confirmed he is making a second attempt to sign Paul Obiefule, with the Nigeria international keen to move to Pittodrie.

McGhee tried to sign the midfielder during the summer transfer window, but was unable to agree a deal with his Norwegian club Lyn Oslo.

However, Lyn are now prepared to sell the 23-year-old following relegation and Obiefule has travelled to Scotland for talks over a potential January switch.

"We have invited the lad over for talks," confirmed McGhee in the Daily Record.

"He's a good player, so we are keen to get him in. He is expected to be fully fit by the turn of the year."

Hoping

Obiefule, who is currently recovering from a knee injury, has expressed his desire to secure a winter transfer to the SPL club.

"Hopefully the clubs can sort something out," stated Obiefule. "At the moment they are trying to find out how easy it would be for me to move here.

"I know all about Aberdeen as a club as I have been following them closely since they tried to sign me. We'll see what happens, but I'm hoping this move will go through.

"I'm definitely prepared to join Aberdeen if an agreement can be reached with Lyn Oslo and myself. I want to play in Scotland because Aberdeen are a great club in a strong league."

Lyn Oslo's director of sports Rolf Magne Walstad told the Press & Journal: "Lyn is struggling financially following our relegation and we will pick up the phone if there is serious interest.

"We have to listen to every enquiry, interest or offer at the moment. We have given Paul permission to speak to any clubs who are interested in him."
