New Grimsby signing Mark Hudson has said he is delighted to return to the Football League.

Hudson, 29, had been without a club since leaving Rotherham in the summer and was forced to play for non-league side Gainsborough Trinity for the early part of the season.

Following a number of unsuccessful trials, he managed to secure a deal with the Mariners and will now stay with the club until the end of the season.

Delighted with his return, the talented playmaker says his intention is to help turn things around for the League Two strugglers in the hope he might earn an extension to his current contract.

Relief

"I'm just glad to get started really because since I left Rotherham it has been pretty dire," he said to skysports.com.

"I've been to a few clubs on trial since the summer and a number of them have turned round and told me that they've not got any money available, so it has been very frustrating.

"I've signed for Grimsby until the end of the season, but there is an option of another year here if I impress, so I've just got to work hard and earn a chance to show what I can do.

"Hopefully I'll do enough to earn an extended deal at the end of the season."
